Tucked away in a quiet corner of the fourth floor in the Westfield Shopping Center sits Zazil, pronounced “zah-ZEEL” (from the Mayan word, sáasil, meaning “clarity”). One of Eduardo and Sylvia Rallo’s Resmex portfolio of excellent restaurants, Zazil introduces the flavors of the Mexican Coastline in an imaginative and tantalizing fashion.

With light blue hues and saucer-like lighting, the ambiance at Zazil sets the tone of the Mexican coastline. The comfortable setting makes it easy to forget one is just steps from the world class shopping at Bloomingdales, Nordstoms, and the many other stores making up this new shopping mecca in Downtown San Francisco.

Executive Chef Rocío Gómez. brings her wealth of experience to every table at Zazil. Coming from Mexico City, and having cooked for President Vicente Fox Quezada and his family, Chef Gómez is inspired to please the most discerning taste. Diners at Zazil might overhear the Chef saying that the “Presence of grandmothers who left their recipes imprinted in our memory is what keeps these authentic and traditional dishes around today”.

Not to be missed is Zazil’s cocktail menu, highlighted by a tequila bar displaying over 300 premium tequilas. With this many choices, making a decision can be a daunting task, so the knowledgeable bartending staff will assist in pointing patrons in the right direction.
Try the Tequilito-Zazil’s version of the mojito, topped with pomegranate Herradura Silver tequila infusion and soda, or the Pink Cadillac, an amazing concoction of Hornitos Reposado tequila, sour mix, a splash of cranberry juice and float of Grand Marnier. Needless to say, the bar at Zazil has quickly become a place for weary shoppers to drop their bags, rest their feet, and enjoy a taste of coastal Mexico.

Just up the stairs, the Century San Francisco Centre theatre makes Zazil an obvious choice for moviegoers, before or after a show.

From tempting appetizers and libations, to sophisticated main dishes and desserts, Zazil offers a unique dining experienced one would be hard pressed to find, even in a mall that seems to have everything.
