Description
Join Absolute Adventures this weekend as we witness nature in action. Since the Tule Elk were re-introduced to Point Reyes in 1978, the herd has grown from 10 animals to around 400. For most of the year, the elk stay in loose herds of females, calves and young males. Older males tend to travel alone or in small bachelor groups. In the early spring the bulls' antlers drop off. As the antlers regenerate, bulls become more aggressive toward each other marking the beginning of the rutting, or mating, season which lasts from late July to mid October. As we hike through the Tomales Point Reserve, we’ll listen for the males “bugling” to attract females. We may even be lucky enough to witness some clashing between two rival males. During our 10 mile hike we’ll also be rewarded with incredible coastal views as we walk to tip of Tomales Point – the Pacific Ocean’s crashing waves on our left and the calmer waters of Tomales Bay to our right. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity!
