About Tsunami

Tsunami is like a wave of the hip urbane. Dim lights, house music, a good looking wait staff and red vintage chairs flavor the cozy sushi and sake bar-flanked dining room.

The sushi chefs opt for vintage street clothes over traditional whites, adding to the retro mood. They roll out nicely presented, creative items like Papa San—spicy crab, avocado, cucumber and gobo, topped with whitefish, a jalapeño wafer, spicy mayo, tobiko and lightly baked ponzu.

The bar, which is open to late night revelers until 2am, displays the most extensive colorful premium sake list on the west coast and proudly offer aficionados over 100 sakes by the bottle & 50 by the glass, all imported from Japan — as well as seasonal samplers. Another way to enjoy what Tsunami refers to as “one of the most natural beverages on earth,” is Tsunami’s Wrath: a sake-and-sangría mix with cranberry juice and limejuice.

Tsunami is an ideal spot to host group parties for up to 25 guests in its lounge area. Tsunami is a very busy restaurant and as you sometimes wait for your table there, Bar 821 "a wine & sake bar" was opened next door simply to have Tsunami's guests linger & wait for tables while still having great fun.
Tsunami is not only a dinner but also an experience in dining out & partying!

Smooth Saké Sipping
By Gloria Tai (01/21/2004)

" What to do when your reliable cosmo or gin and tonic just aren't doing it for you anymore? Latch onto the latest trend- saké. Brewed like beer, but served like wine, saké has been a popular spirit in Japan for hundreds of years, but has only recently taken this culture-fusion-happy city by storm as the hip new drink. And restaurants featuring saké bars are popping up everywhere. "
