About Sunset Center

The Sunset Center is the most active cultural facility on the Monterey Peninsula, home to distinguished performing arts groups including the Carmel Music Society, Carmel Bach Festival, Monterey Symphony, Chamber Music Monterey, and Sunset Presents.   Built originally in 1931 as the auditorium of a grammar school, the Center has recently completed a major renovation. The result is a state-of-the-art performance center and a magnificent venue for the performing arts. Located in the heart of Carmel, nestled among the pines, it is one of the highlights of a visitors experience to Carmel, and an ongoing delight for residents.

The Sunset Center is also a community gathering place, where citizens of the region meet to enjoy the full spectrum of performing arts, view visual-arts exhibits, exchange ideas, learn, and attend organization meetings and educational events.  We bring artists, local citizens and regional neighbors together to share talents, ideas and enjoyment of one another in a carefully maintained, state-of-the-art historic facility.

There is free parking for our patrons in our parking lot and a City parking lot located on the corner of Mission & 8th, with the entrance on 8th.  Parking is free in the City lot after 6:00 PM
