San Francisco Fashion Week
Let the Buying Begin
by grace chen on Aug 20, 2004
San Francisco launches its first fashion week ever at the Palace of Fine Arts from August 26th to August 29th. It is not only the first Fashion Week for this city but also the first to premier its Spring/Summer 2005 collections ahead of the other major fashion cities. Unlike many of the invite-only fashion shows held from the well-established circuits of New York, Paris, London and Milan, San Francisco is opening its event not only to retail buyers but also to the public who have the real purchasing power.
The four-day event opens with Colleen Quen's couture creations. If you cannot wait for Colleen Quen's designs to hit the runway then you can make an appointment and sneak a preview of her duchesse satin cocktail dresses or gowns at her studio located in SOMA.
Ms. Quen's studio abounds with looks that befit a gala or an artsy event where you want to make a statement. There is the whimsical "Lemon Drop" dress in a light yellow chiffon or the red-orange-fuchsia "Saketini" that is a minidress with a large obi-like bow which drapes from the back. Other couture creations include billowing gowns that shine with many bright colors. All designs are custom-made to order.
The event also highlights over fifty jewelry and accessory designers who plan to display their designs onsite for the public to view and purchase during SF Fashion Week. One of the many talented designers includes Cari Streeter from San Luis Obispo, California.
Cari sells at Fred Segal in Los Angeles but San Francisco is the first to preview the launch of her Precious Metal Clay Collection during Fashion Week. Her line reflects uniquely shaped jewelry made of clay that is fired in a kiln to create pure silver or gold adornments. Many of her designs are accented by gemstones and have caught the eye of the organizers of the BMG/Grammy Awards who selected Cari's jewelry as part of their gift bag this year.
At this event you cannot only preview and select your favorite looks but also drive off with a customized Vespa, one of the many sponsors of Fashion Week. For sale are four custom designed Vespa scooters each with its own individual embellishment, color, fabric and chrome.
Kicking off power for Fashion Week is Azalea which celebrates its first anniversary and holds the official pre-party on Wednesday night in Hayes Valley. To mark the dual celebration, Azalea is offering 10% off on all new fall fashion arrivals for both men and women.
Also be sure to check out SF Station's homepage for your chance to win a package which includes two free tickets to the Grand Opening Shows, limousine service, VIP admission to DJ Jazzy Jeff's After Party, NARS Cosmetics consultation and more. In the meantime, for more information on the event, tickets and schedule see the information below.
