Once the home of Jerry Garcia, this family-centric San Francisco neighborhood offers reasonably priced real estate, and therefore enjoys high home-ownership rates. Unfortunately, the media has often lumped the Excelsior in with nearby, more troublesome neighborhoods, occasionally giving it a reputation as a high-crime area; but residents of this neighborhood are close, and many long-time residents are working hard to help change the perception of the area.
