The PURPLE MOON DANCE PROJECT was founded by Jill Togawa in 1992. Her goal was to integrate non-western and western dance forms and aesthetics; create a multidisciplinary collaboration; and to explore the continuum of intimacy between women. Its mission is to develop a greater appreciation of American cultural diversity—especially for lesbians and women of color—through the medium of dance.
