Russian Hill Bars and Clubs

No doubt about it, Russian Hill has a ritzy palate. While parts of San Francisco's Russian Hill district may sit on a hill and are assuredly more expensive than elsewhere in San Francisco, the main attractions are down on the Polk Street portion of the area. The Marina crowd migrates here at night, as well as the Nob Hill and Tenderloin bar crawlers. Weekends and weeknights keep this area constantly going, from sports bars like Shanghai Kelly's to fancier joints like Rouge (a bar that doubles as Nick's Crispy Tacos during the day). A few wine bars are scattered on the strip as well for the more sophisticated crowd and no matter what, the streets are always alive until very late. After the night is over, Escape from New York Pizza always hits the spot for Russian Hill partiers.

Bacchus Wine Bar

1954 Hyde Street, San Francisco CA; Tel. 415.928.2633
There are certainly a plethora of excellent wine choices by the bottle or fancy sake cocktails (and even designer leather love seats in the front window). On an "off night" though, you can pull up a bright blue Art Deco stool and chat the bartender up or just kick back with a very full glass of wine and listen to some smooth electronic melodies.

Tonic

2360 Polk St (at Union), San Francisco CA; Tel. 415.771.5535
Tonic is a watering hole that's a cut above the rest with an upscale vibe, cool drinks and many repeat visitors.
