Japantown Bars and Clubs

Between the Upper Fillmore, known for trendy boutiques and coffee houses, and the Lower Fillmore, known for jazz, rock 'n roll and the Black Panther Party, sits Japantown. Okay, so there's not a plethora of nightlife in Japantown, but what little there is can be summed up with one word: karaoke. With a few great sushi restaurants and plenty of sake, San Francisco's Japantown definitely has its quirks. The Kabuki Lounge serves up sake cocktails a plenty and there are plenty of places to get a late night dose of sashimi or some spicy tuna hand rolls. There's also Club Mari, where sake infused karaoke sessions can take flight until the early morning.

Boom Boom Room

1601 Fillmore (at Geary), San Francisco CA; Tel. 415.673.8000
Despite San Francisco's predilection toward non-confrontational jazz over in-your-face blues, John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Room is an unabashed purveyor of the latter, offering stiff drinks in an even stiffer neighborhood and a well-seasoned and world weary mix of local talent and touring headliners.
