| Description July 30 – August 29, 2008
Opening Reception: Wednesday, July 30, 2008, 5:30 - 7:30 PM “The channels are metaphoric of a kind of connectivity and connectedness… they pulse with the continuous flow, a flow that binds and connects all things spiritual, informational, and biological.” - John Bonick The ropy lines of layered paint in John Bonick’s work resemble a tangle of nerves, the lines of a tree trunk or layers of sediments laid down over time. He describes these layers as “channels” and relates them to naturally occurring pathways like stems, branches, veins, trails, blood lines, etc. The channels generally extend beyond the edge of the picture. Each image is only a temporal slice of the constant and continuous flow. By exploring these “channels” Bonick is probing for the point at which these lines become meaningful and in turn deciphering if having a “meaning” creates boundaries and disrupts the flow of connectivity. |
