| Description Benjamin Smoke & Building a Broken Mousetrap
TWO FILMS by JEM COHEN Homemade BRUNCH served at 11am the following morning for anyone who stays over! 1236 23rd Ave, Oakland (BART to Fruitvale / 62 Bus) Call 510-378-0628 if you get lost! *** Benjamin Smoke is a film made by Jem Cohen and Peter Sillen. Shot over a decade, the last of Benjamin's life, it is (Cohen says) "the story of a boy growing up in the rural South who sensed his own difference, a 'queerness' that isn't just about gender." Beautifully assembled, combining 16mm, Super 8, video, and photographs, it is a portrait of Benjamin, but also of his band, Smoke, and the neighborhood much of the action springs from, Atlanta's Cabbagetown. A film by Jem Cohen and Matt Boyd. An unorthodox, celebratory concert film of Holland-based band, the Ex, playing in New York. The Ex have existed in various incarnations for over 25 years, combining the original anarcho-political spirit of punk with folk, noise, and improv. |
