Guests feel welcomed the moment they step foot into this top San Francisco establishment. Located in Hotel Adagio, this adventurous restaurant and bar will satisfy your taste buds beyond any expectation. With décor like no other restaurant in San Francisco, Cortez features cool rich earth tones, creative wall hangings and stimulating ceiling ornaments. Cortez offers creative Mediterranean small plates (or tapas) perfect for sharing. Dishes are innovative and creative. Try the crab cakes dressed up in shredded filo dough. The Pan roasted Meyer hanger steak and shoestring fries are two of the usual crowd-pleasers. Seafood plates are perfectly cooked, no matter what the preparation, including prawns a la plancha, black trumpet crusted scallops and baked wild salmon. Desserts, like the molten peanut butter-chocolate cake, raise the bar even higher. The knowledgeable staff takes pleasure in helping pair the food and dessert with the best selection of wine. The menu stays fresh and items change seasonally to keep things new and exciting. "Union Square's hip new Hotel Adagio hired ubiquitous restaurateur Pascal Rigo to create a popular hangout with a creative small-plates menu. The bar's funky design elements, especially the backlit Mondrian-style panels, add to the upbeat atmosphere" —Food & Wine Magazine, August 2004
"Best original cocktails." —SFWeekly, 2006 "Cortez brings added glamour to the theater district's new mission-style Hotel Adagio with an original take on Mediterranean cuisine that's both sophisticated and approachable. Crab cakes breaded with crisped katafi, or phyllo dough, are paired with citrus-marinated cabbage. Lamb sirloin, crusted with dates and mint, goes for glory with strips of cumin-infused carrots across a chive puree. A vanilla saffron sauce is the happy subtext of a perfectly poached halibut served on shavings of roasted artichoke." —Conde Nast Traveler, "66 best new restaurants in the world"
"This whimsically clad restaurant is on fire with a wealth of mouth-watering menu items... All perfect for sharing with a special someone or with an entire group." —Nob Hill Gazette, March 2004
"Cortez has good wines by the glass and delicious cocktails, especially at the bustling mahogany bar. The food itself is spot-on, larger than the usual small plates and full of flavor." —Julie Ross, AOL Cityguide
