About Community Music Center

Community Music Center (CMC) is a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization founded in 1921 with the mission of making music accessible to all people, regardless of financial status. CMC is a member of National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.

Making music is an active, life-affirming thing to do. We encourage everyone, from beginners to experienced amateurs, to come to our community center and join in. Attending concerts is also part of the activities at CMC. Over 100 concerts, from professional recitals to student ensembles, took place at our recital hall on Capp Street or at our Richmond District Branch. Scores of other concerts happened in diverse locations around San Francisco including performances by our CMC Orchestra, our SF Children's Choruses, and various student ensembles that played for people who otherwise would not have had access to the joys of music.
