Since it opened in 2004, neighborhood locals and SF visitors have bestowed a loyal and vocal thumbs up to what has become the Marina's most popular seafood and late night restaurant—only 5 minutes ride from the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, the Exploratorium and both the Union Street and Chestnut Street shopping districts.

"A relaxed attitude combined with a sleek interior help make Café Maritime a neighborhood favorite that also serves some of the best seafood in town." — Gayot.com

Located in heart of the Marina Bar & Dining District, this is the culinary insiders' spot where the staff from the area's most upscale hot spots go after work to relax from 11pm to 1am every night. Weekend Brunch on Saturday and Sundays is a relaxing stop while visiting the nearby attractions.

Designer John Lum has turned the space on Lombard next to the King Edward Hotel into a spot that conceptually brings the ocean to you. The restaurant's interior is sophisticated in its imagery, yet simple and down to earth to compliment the fresh ingredients of the cooking.

A boat shaped, finely crafted bar welcomes patrons. Soft lighting and white panel walls highlight an abstract seascape mural that stretches along one wall. A curvaceous banquette, evocative of a curling wave, is the main focus of the restaurant—making Café Maritime a spot equally intimate for a casual date or a group get together any night of the week.

Fresh, fresh, fresh seafood is the byword that has gained Café Maritime stellar user comments on Yelp and Citysearch (although the hanger steak is perfectly executed as well). A lot of transplanted East Coast folks told owner Mark Mitcheltree that they remembered restaurants back home specializing in ultra-fresh, simply prepared seafood at reasonable prices so he has had 15 year veteran Chef Eduardo Martinez (formerly with the popular MoMo's by the baseball park) fuse East Coast simplicity with West Coast local ingredients. Sustainability is a special concern as well.

Some Favorites that have made Café Maritime the top seafood spot in the trendy Marina/Cow Hollow area include:

  • Daily Oyster selection and Littleneck Clams
  • Perfect to share Chilled Seafood Platter with half Maine lobster and Dungeness crab
  • Grilled Stuffed Squid with Chard, smoked tomato sauce, lime crème fraîche
  • Alaskan Halibut Broccoli rabe & sweet roasted garlic sauce
  • Lobster Roll Kennebec fries & house made coleslaw
  • Grilled Hanger Steak with bourbon green peppercorn butter
  • Voted City Best by SF Weekly - Crab Cakes with Meyer lemon aioli, watercress & beet salad

Plus, In Season Only- Soft Shell Crabs (mid May- mid Sept), Alaskan Copper River Salmon (mid May) and Local King Salmon (changes each year)

Specialty Cocktails include ( among others) : Shore Leave Fix (Light Rum, Fresh OJ, Fresh Lime Lemonade, Dash of Sugar Man Overboard Spiced Rum, Coconut Rum, Tuaca, Pineapple Juice), Fresh Water Margarita (Silver Tequila, Cointreau, Fresh Lime, Splash of OJ), and White Out (Citron Vodka, Cointreau, White Cranberry Juice) .

"The (wine list ) choices are excellent. Most of the wines have a crisp acidity and low oak, which helps them sparkle with the fish-based menu." — San Francisco Chronicle

The well thought out wine list has 12 offerings under $35, with 8 more at $45 or under (although there are plenty of higher end, special occasion choices as well). By the glass options, including champagne, are more than plentiful and change seasonally as owner Mitcheltree, a former head waiter at San Jose's prestigious Eulipia, knows how important it is to look for value for his regulars and not bore them with the same old, same old.
