Editorial Review Music for Fucking By Lisa Butterworth (10/14/2003)" You may think you've never heard the homegrown beats and sleazy lyrics of Peaches. If you've seen Sofia Coppola's highly touted, well-deserved new film Lost in Translation, you're wrong. There's a scene where the camera finds Bill Murray's character sitting somewhat uncomfortably with a nonplussed look on his face in a swank, sterile exotic dance club. As the Japanese women shake their asses, you hear it in the background: "Sucking on my titties / like you wanted me…" leading in to the looped chorus "Fuck the pain away". " |
Editorial Review Roni Size and Reprazent By SFS Staff (01/25/2001)" If you add up the obvious, San Francisco is no place for drum and bass. For starters, this is dance music in its most inaccessible form: grimy, overly masculine of late, and truly epileptic in nature, DnB simply doesn't cater to what is an admittedly uncoordinated city. Whereas trance and house virtually do the dancing for you, drum and bass seems damn near undanceable. " |
Editorial Review For Those About To Rock A Salute to San Francisco's Live Music Venues By Lisa Butterworth (01/22/2001)" San Francisco is a city bursting with live music every night of the week. With so many shows and so little time one must ask, "What makes a good show great?" Invariably one will answer, "Why, the venue of course!" The right band at the right venue can turn a mediocre performance into the live set of a lifetime. When you live in a city where the music scene is so prolific you actually have to pick between bills, a venue preference can make or break your night. Here is an extremely subjective list of one music lover's venue favorites (and not-so-favorites). " |
